Rehoboth honours Geingob with street naming The Rehoboth Town Council has announced plans to name the town’s long street, previously known as the D1210, to Dr Hage Geingob Street. This was announced by councillor Jacky Khariseb during an information-sharing session on Friday. A ceremony is expected to take place soon. During his 2014 presidential campaign visit, former president Hage Geingob expressed his desire to see improvements at the town’s Blok E. The council has since tarred the road from the cemetery past Rehoboth High School to Blok E. “Geingob shared that he would love to one day see it as equal to the rest of the town by improving Blok E too,” Khariseb said. In addition to honouring Geingob, the council has approved renaming Church Street, Rehoboth’s longest street, to Captain Hans Diergaardt Street. This decision recognises the Baster captain’s contributions, including providing housing for various ethnic groups. “He provided housing to other ethnic groups that today are called Hans Diergaardt houses,” Khariseb said.
