(I already knew that #SugarShack sold at auction a coupla years ago for $15m because GeorgeLucas and some other guy with too much money got into a bidding war. The estimate was only $150k. But I like remembering it, because we should never forget that rich people are stupid, obscene and ridiculous.)

Elongated, sinuous, sinfully sexy bodies dance and writhe together in ecstatic dance as a band plays live from the stage to the right. The room is built from dark wood, with one light casting a triangle of white brightness onto the dancefloor. All the people have dark skin. The buxom lady near the front has hitched her white dress up to her hips. A steatopygous lady nearby has a yellow dress and white shoes. Another has a scarlet, strapless dress, and heaven knows how that's staying on. There are men on the dancefloor with the women, but they all seem to be the same/similar: slim, jeans, white shirt/t-shirt, bald head. The singer of the band wears a rust-coloured suit, while the sax player is side-on to display a big old beer belly. Hanging from the rafters are some cloth signs. One says "Welcome to THE SUGAR SHACK dancing every Fri Sat Night featuring BIG DADDY RUCKER", while another says "Featuring MARVIN GAYE with his new hit I WANT YOU". There is one guy not dancing near the front. He's sitting on a chair, with a hat on, a bottle of beer and a book on the floor next to him. He looks glum. Maybe he just fancied a quiet drink and a read? Or maybe he's tired from too much dancing. Or maybe he hates it here, but he has to stay until his friends are ready to leave, as they're his ride home? Anyway, I hate dancing, but I love this painting. It is joyful. (It says here that its style is neo-Mannerist Genre painting, which I think means not realistic, and depicts ordinary people doing ordinary things. But there's nothing ordinary here.)
