The sun wasn't shining for #SundaySquirrel, a Cumbrian red squirrel, but the softer light is great for bringing out all the different shades and textures of the fur. And a dark background is always good for whiskers!

Photo of a Grey Squirrel sat on a dark piece of timber. The Squirrel is facing towards the right side of the image, with forepaws raised and held together just beneath his or her mouth as if in prayer (in reality of course, there is food in those paws and the Squirrel is eating it). The Squirrel's fur is mostly grey in colour, darker on the tail, with some brown around the eyes and on the small, rounded ears; the belly however is white. The long, bushy tail is held upright, but the end is curled over to droop behind the rest of the appendage. In the background there are brownish and greenish twigs and branches, out of focus.

A Red Squirrel sitting on top of a wooden fence, with a Macadamia nut in his or her mouth. The Squirrel is facing towards the right side of the image and slightly towards us, with forepaws held out in front, and hind feet (and tail) hidden behind the top rail of the fence. The fur on the upper parts of the Squirrel is reddish-brown in colour, darker and tinged with grey in places, a brighter in others. The fur on the chest and belly is white. There are a few wispy hairs rather than pronounced tufts on top of the short, rounded ears. The eye is black. The large size of the eye, and the way that the mouth is wide open to hold the nut, makes it look as if the Squirrel is surprised.
When you suddenly remember that it's #SquirrelSunday and it's your turn to be the #SundaySquirrel. This is one of the Reds who entertained my brother Rob and I (and many others) at The Dingle, Llangefni, #Anglesey, in June last year. #Mammals #UKWildlife #NaturePhotography
