The river’s smooth water surface reflects sunlight back toward the astronaut’s camera, producing an optical phenomenon known as #Sunglint.

Sunglint is a natural phenomenon that occurs when sunlight reflects off the surface of water at same angle of the viewer.

#Sunglint, sky glint, and shallow-water bottom reflections (plus some atmospheric #aerosols and phytoplankton cells) affected what #Landsat 9 saw on 24 July 2022 while its #radiometers were pointed at the #PersianGulf.
