Smokestack and door of a cement kiln into the side of a rock wall

Decommissioned in 1908, this was the kiln for the Alamo Portland and Roman Cement Co.
The adjacent quarry has been home to the Japanese Tea Garden and the Sunken Garden Amphitheater in Brackenridge Park for decades.

Wake Up the Beds The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Public Garden Section created the event to involve residents in the joy of gardening at Sunken Gardens. Over the years, gardening groups, neighbors, Master Gardeners, 4-H groups and friends of Sunken Gardens have helped with the annual "Wake Up the Gardens" and "Put the Beds to Bed" events.
