Sunrise Over Portland: horizontal color photograph. The sun has just crested the Cascades Mountains in the upper right of the scene, where it shining through, over, and under the thin streaks of clouds that semi-cover the sky all the way across the frame. About 1/3 of the way in from the left side, and above the mid-ling of the image, looms the cone of Mt. Hood. The sun's rays emanated out from the sun and down through the image, turning the morning mist orange, first illuminating the folds of the Cascades, and then the skyscrapers of downtown Portland, Oregon. In the bottom of the image, layers of silhouetted trees block some of the view of Portland as the Tualatin Mountains rise from the valley to the viewpoint at Pittock Mansion where this photo was taken.

Le ciel matinal traversé par de fines couches de nuages cotonneux. Le ciel fait un joli dégradé de bleu nuit jusqu'à bleu clair tirant vers le jaune, tandis que les nuages sont colorés d'orange, rose et gris foncé tirant sur le violet. On aperçoit une étoile qui brille en haut à droite.
