I recognise that pic! Lilian Lenton a.k.a. Ida Inkley / May Dennis / the Elusive #Suffragette, is very much the star of my 2-part story featuring Chief Constable Llewellyn Atcherley.
“Lilian quickly made a name for herself. In fact, she made several names for herself.”
#OneNameStudy #SurnameStudy
An unexpected but delightful start to my day: a phone call from a distant relative, a descendant of the Ryley family depicted on this page of my Atcherley #FamilyHistory / #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy website. She has photos which were clearly taken at the same time as some of these pics!
Oops, just a few more Atcherley wills for my #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy! Now I am done. Maybe...
My second cousin 3x removed Ethel Mary Atcherley (1884–1971) worked at Queen’s Hospital during (and after) #WW1. For her services in connection with the war she was awarded an MBE in 1920. #FamilyHistory #OneNameStudy #SurnameStudy
#31DaysOfGraves Day 15: Damaged
There's no damage visible in this preview image for a page on my Atcherley #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy website, but as you will see on the page itself, the cross that once stood on this base is in two pieces and lying on the ground.
Photo of a monument erected on a grave enclosed by kerb stones. The monument is topped by a representation of an angelic child with wings, holding flowers in her left hand. The first part of the inscription on the pedestal below is given in the post to which this image is attached; the inscription concludes with "Jesus went out gathering flowers, on his way he gathered ours."
#31DaysOfGraves Day 7: Angel
The grave of “Mary, dearly beloved daughter of William and Frances Silvester, died February 22nd 1950, aged 11 years and 6 months” at Tibberton, #Shropshire. A relative, and part of my #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy – Mary’s mother was an Atcherley by birth.
Two images combined. Left: a photo of a wall-mounted memorial tablet, made of wood but painted to look like stone, on which five members of the Atcherley family are remembered (Robert of Marton, died 1758; Richard of Wem, died 1766; Richard of Marton, died 1766; Jane, died 1773; Elizabeth, died 1836). Right: an enlarged part of the first photo, showing part of the red and gold (or, in heraldic terminology, gules and or) Atcherley arms at the top of the memorial tablet and the crest above; the bird, which is red but has open, gold-coloured wings, faces towards the left and holds a lily in its beak.
More heraldry for the #31DaysOfGraves Day 5 theme: Bird.
Back to my #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy for this one, and the #Shropshire church of Myddle St Peter where many of the Atcherleys of Marton Hall are buried and remembered. The crest above the Atcherley arms is a demi-bustard holding a lily.
An issue I've had in writing an article for my #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy rather than my #OnePlaceStudies. In a transcript of a letter, I replaced the words (singular and plural) with n____ and n____s, and then explained what I had done and why.
Time to add a few members of the Atcherley family, from my semi-dormant #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy, to my #31DaysOfGraves output. For Day 3 here are some Atcherley chest tombs at Baschurch All Saints, #Shropshire, the last resting place for a great many Atcherleys over the centuries.

My new website for my #OneNameStudy of the MORNIN surname is now up and running. Only 244 people so far, but it's a start. A long way to go with this project, that I will find time to add to each month.

In my Atcherley #OneNameStudy / #SurnameStudy, Priscilla Atcherley was 25 when, in 1865 at Leamington, she tied the knot with her widowed first cousin once removed William Matthews, who was 55. This union resulted in 6 children, with all 3 sons dying in infancy. #Genealogy #MindTheGap [2/3]
Still poorly this week so not been doing anything that needed too much brain power 😂, but did make a start gathering Irish BMD info for my new MORNIN One-Name Study.

Family photo from 1986.
My brother's & I with our Great Grandmother Catherine Canning in 1986. She would have been 91 then. It's her maiden name MORNIN that is the focus of my #OneNameStudy.

I wrote in reply (after a fashion) to another Atcherley's ancestral enquiry back in 2014, in "An Officer and a Gentleman: Roger (or Rowland) Atcherley." #Genealogy #FamilyHistory #OneNameStudy #SurnameStudy
