Collage of photographs taken at Sweetheart Abbey's graveyard in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Blame a family history graveyard-hunting childhood for the subject matter. Still find them fascinating, especially headstones words with humour and designs that link to the incumbent's life. Image shows a collage of 3 x 3 photos of different elements and patterns on gravestones, including faces, anchors, initials and plants. Stone varies in colour from age to terracotta through to deep grey-brown.

Photograph taken of a grave with a large Celtic cross atop it. I have botched out the inscription below with some unskilled phone wizardry - not into sharing someone's details. Behind the main grave is another in shining white - a simple cross at the top of a grave with a clearly defined perimeter. Ruins of Sweetheart Abbey in the distance and a dull sky overhead.

Photograph taken in the graveyard of Sweetheart Abbey in Dumfriesshire. Used a monochrome filter for drama. A weathered, tall, Celtic stone cross stands at the edge of the graveyard. Separated from the field beyond by an old stone wall. Dark trees in the distance.

Graves are often beautiful things, albeit steeped in sorrow. Time, skill and care was needed to design and create this nautical masterpiece for a mariner's resting place. Photograph taken at Sweetheart Abbey in Dumfriesshire, of the intricate design on a headstone - an anchor in the waves, tied to a large cross with a small heart above. Turned the image black and white for more impact.
