A lot of times they introduce themselves. Sometimes I get just a letter (fuck you, Kai) or I'll show them a list of names I thought were cool and they pick from that. Occasionally, a whole-ass OC will spin out of just a name.

This totally depends! Sometimes they introduce themselves (sometimes pretty aggressively, hi Etienne), sometimes they're made for the narrative and become their own thing from that. Sometimes I just see something cool and want to make it mine in my own way.

So I'm one of those weirdos (affectionate) who splits their psyche and injects it into their characters pretty obviously. So it's whatever's in my head at that time. Currently I'm living mascness (I'm AFAB genderfluid) vicariously through my characters.

#TBBChat a2: I usually have an idea for a character and what at least *some* of their story is, but I tend to build the rest as I go. I like my characters to grow organically as I write. Doesn't always work, but I love finding out about them as I retell their story.

#TBBChat When I was younger I used to keymash. Now I only do that for the robot serial numbers. BUT, most of the time, I let the characters name themselves. I just keep writing them until a name majestically pops out of them.

#TBBChat not really. I feel like I start with one main character the story is centered around, and then I create characters as the story needs them, and start fleshing out those characters based on what the story beckons.

I'd love to see the clash of different worlds. What if aliens landed in Middle Earth? I think the hobbits would just invite them all to tea, and the elves would frown upon their fashion choices.

The start of this book was the hardest for me to write. It's a murder mystery with magic and aliens, and I had to set the murder scene, introduce complicated magic, and bring a character to life in like 2 pages.

The most difficult genre mashup for me would probably be cozy horror. Those are just diametrically opposed, right? Low stakes, everyone getting alone, and also a giant slavering beast running after all the characters.

I guess that was the structure I picked for the last question. I think if we keep the worldbuilding, or structure, but change the pastiche and theme, then we have a UNIVERSE. We can have a romance in this world just as easily as a murder mystery, or a hero's journey.

My favorite genre is a cross genre, of course. I love science fantasy. It's that intersection with alien wizard and techno-knights!
