The sun is hitting trees and bushes to the left of the photo while bushes to the right of the photo are still in shadow. The trail is snow covered into the distance. Nearby trees have no low branches. An evergreen tree with head height branches shows itself behind the older trees. By looking at the Rhododendron leaves, you can tell that the temperature is well in the 40°F range to 50°F range as they are well open and only slightly drooping.
