The vertical slab of this tombstone is divided in two parts. The top third is of white marble and has a relief portrait with the head turned to the left and one arm resting on something, probably a table. The bottom two thirds are a dark reddy-brown marble with the name of the deceased in Cyrillic and Latin scripts. The rest of the inscription is in French. The letters are picked out with gold leaf. At the bottom of the vertical slab are dead plants and flowers. The slab stands at the back of a horizontal slab of the same dark marble. The slab has sloping sides and the top is a chess board. On the board are some small pebbles and a dying rose laid diagonally across it.

A grey stone monument slightly tilting to the right. On the face is an inscription to Gideon Algernon Mantell. HIs qualifications "LLD, FRS, FGS &c" have the LLD part inserted and a faint lighter colour border around the letters shows this.
