“Escapes” was a film built on compromise, as it was essentially created under pressure from the newly reinvigorated and enforced Hollywood Production Code.

Initially conceived and shot as “The Capture of Tarzan,” test screenings of this early production drew criticism for seemingly excessive violence and horror elements, including a scene with large man-eating bats!

This early treatment was scrapped, and production restarted with the story largely changed with more compliance to the pleasure of censorship.

Most clearly among these changes was Jane’s new singlet burlap dress, her two piece from “Tarzan and His Mate” likely having been deemed too risqué.

Tarzan sits sideways in Jane’s lap while they read a book together, his forehead resting on hers lightly. He wears his white button-up and navy trousers with suspenders. Jane wears her white camisole and red skirt. Her hair is styled short, stopping near her chin.

This is the 2nd time I’ve drawn Tarzan sitting in Jane’s lap (one of his favorite places to be 🌱♥️) #tarzan #tarzanthursday #myart #disneyfanart

Text:
“World War II - Axis forces entered Africa in 1940, so it was only a matter of time before Tarzan, the son of a British aristocrat, would oppose them. So did series writer Don Garden, who left the strip during wartime to serve with the military. Thus Burne Hogarth took on the writing, and ‘Tarzan’ came to wholly represent his explosive artistic vision.”

Tarzan, wearing his outfit from his time on Clayton’s ship, speaks animatedly with a hybrid form of Beast / Prince Adam. Adam’s large hand rests in Tarzan’s shoulder. Tarzan rests in the lap of Hercules, who holds him from behind and gazes warmly down at him. Eric, sitting on the floor, also looks up at Tarzan with a smile and gently, affectionately holds Tarzan’s leg with both hands. Shang leans his weight on Hercules and also gives Tarzan an affectionate look. Lastly, Milo holds Tarzan’s free hand and kisses his calloused knuckles with reverence.

Now thatyou know, maybe it will make sense when I say:

The fan consensus that Viktor’s VA Harry Lloyd officially verbally endorsed JayVik living in a cottage by a stream with four (adopted) children…

Is the Arcane equivalent of the misquote “Me Tarzan, you Jane.” 🙂‍↕️

I don’t have any art but I do have trivia for a belated post for #TarzanThursday : Fun fact, “Me Tarzan, you Jane” is a complete misquote and was *never, ever* said in *any* official Tarzan movies, books, or comics.

In a dream sequence, Tarzan is overtaken by a sentient Martian plant organism called the “Tara.” It thrives on Earth’s atmosphere and grows into monstrous things made of slimy purple and green tentacles, with strange abilities to possess other living beings and also fuse its DNA with that of dead organisms to create new hybrid life forms.

Randomly remembered these panels exist in an official Tarzan comic arc from the 90s 🌱 🐙

“I love when people draw 2 characters chuddlinf and it looks like this.”

The accompanying drawing is a simplified cartoon image of two generic figures sleeping in a big comfy bed, lying close together with heads touching. Only the top half of their faces is visible as the covers are pulled up to wrap them snug and tight.
