Working on a new chapter of my book!
In which I take a long-ish list of QRE models to Holt, Sahu, and Smith (2022).

My CRRA coefficient is 0.20. My probability weighting function evaluated at 50% is 82.3%. I made 49 decisions. Estimate your rank-dependent utility preferences here: jamesblandecon.shinyapps.io/RDUAdaptive/

My CRRA coefficient is 0.26. I made 40 decisions and eliminated 69.0% of the prior uncertainty. You can too: jamesblandecon.shinyapps.io/RiskAppAdapt...

Another app for estimating your risk preferences: jamesblandecon.shinyapps.io/RiskAppAdapt...
This one uses a greedy adaptive algorithm based on my working paper: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

ESTIMATE MY RISK PREFERENCES!
jamesblandecon.shinyapps.io/RiskApp/
v0.0.6 now available.
This update includes
- A measure of choice consistency in the report
- The option to see the lotteries as pie charts. The bar chart option remains

ESTIMATE MY RISK PREFERENCES!
Another update, v0.0.5
- Now you get a CRRA coefficient, becuase they are more widely used
- Risk premium calculation instead of certainty equivalent
- Bland (2025) priors, becuase I like them

It is coming together!
I decided to use Claude for coding suggestions in the end, but I made sure I knew what I was doing.

Is anyone interested in knowing their risk preferences. I am thinking about making a Google form to fill out. You'd have about 80 binary decisions. I would then use @mc-stan.org to estimate your utility function and give you a short report about what it means. Also, how do I automate this?

Another chapter of my free online book is available!
In it I teach you about data augmentation and what to do when your experiment's paraticipants like round numbers.

I estimated my behavioral economics students' risk preferences, and you can too! A blog post about how to do it in R and Stan.

Just started teaching risk preferences in Behavioral Economics. We ran a Holt & Laury (2002) task and a Gneezy & Potters (1997) task in class today. Here are estimates of my students' EUT risk preferences for the utility function u(x)=x^r (so r<1 is risk-averse). #TeachBE #EconSky

I'm thinking of doing a short (2-3 hours) online seminar based on my book (jamesblandecon.github.io/StructuralBa...). Maybe in the fall 2025 semester.
Is anyone interested in that sort of thing?
Has anyone run a seminar like this before? Any tips?
