This is a shameful chapter in our history that sounds very much like Mengele’s experiments during the Holocaust. There should be reparations and public apologies to these men and their families. #BlackHistory #Shameful #BlackHistoryIsAmericanHistory #TeachBlackHistory

How fucking awful!! 😢
Another story from history I had never heard about until now. Why can't we have proper history, including BLACK HISTORY, taught in school? #Depressing #TeachBlackHistory

Her courage enabled so many students to see a vision of a world that's greater than the immediate wins of a sit-in or protest. She was a drum major for peace, justice, and equity. #TeachBlackHistory

The energy was high at the event and our convo about teaching Black History in a state where it is actively being marginalized and erased went well. Still, I find it difficult to follow musicians on a program.

William H. Johnson, Nat Turner, ca. 1945

There are some historical accounts that suggest a particularly gruesome aspect to Nat Turner's execution, with claims that his body was not only dissected for "scientific study" but also that parts of his body were consumed by those involved in his execution. These stories, though not definitively proven, are rooted in the brutal and dehumanizing treatment that Turner and other Black individuals faced during this period. The practice of mutilating and consuming the bodies of executed individuals, particularly those who defied the status quo, was a reflection of the deep racial animus and desire to assert power and control over enslaved people. While these details are difficult to confirm with certainty, they illustrate the extreme lengths to which white authorities went in punishing those who resisted slavery, further cementing Turner's status as both a martyr and a symbol of the fight for freedom.
