So, remember how I said the first half of #Tetsujin28FX was toothless because it was a 1992 anime trying to be a 1960's anime in an era post Gundam and other real Giant Robot anime? That was because it was trying to keep the aesthetics of the ORIGINAL Tetsujin. #UltimateMuscle
If you can find it for a reasonable price, fan of the Tetsujin/Gigantor franchise or not, that middle part in between the kids graduating and the finale makes it worth it. If not, search the cons, Discotek might have it or you'll get lucky like I did. #Tetsujin28FX
And as much as I want others to see it, and praise that area in between the start of the retool and the grand finale...this is in NO POSSIBLE WAY worth over the standard SD on BD price. It's not as bad of a rip off as the Gundam Seed HD collection, but close. #Tetsujin28FX
I got lucky and found it for a typical SD on BD price at Discotek's booth at ACEN. @Ochan30 had to blow his switch 2 money to get his copy because, it either happened before or right after, it got out of print, meaning sellers jacked up the price. #Tetsujin28FX
Is the first half an endurance? Yes. Does it end more with a whimper than a bang? Yep.
Is it worth every penny fan of Tetsujin/Gigantor or not? Absolutely...under one condition... #Tetsujin28FX
I am not kidding when I wondered if it was an OVA that nobody knew about for a bit, the animation gets that good and so many eps have that feel, especially the ones involving the President's daughter and, my favorite ep, the isekai episode. #Tetsujin28FX
But, once the kids graduate and the team is establish? Oh my God, it gets SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better! By a country mile, it gets so much better! Tighter writing, better animation, characters that don't make you wanna punch your TV... #Tetsujin28FX
Yeah, here's the bad news at first, you gotta slog through a handful of eps that date this show PRETTY badly. It tries to be a Gigantor/Tetsujin for the then new generation of the 90's...but staying true to how it was in the 50's...and using 80's "Comedy." #Tetsujin28FX
The first half maybe a toothless slog, and it ends in a clip show...
But, damn it, in between is a pleasant surprise that has become, no joke, one of my favorite giant robot animes I've ever seen. #Tetsujin28FX
Masato is asked to speak and is complaining that he shouldn't be getting a prize but be out there to help the rest of the Tetsujin team kick some ass!
Could've used that explination earlier, but ok! #Tetsujin28FX
"What is that thing!?" Something that not even the original Tetsujin would've thought up in a million years...mainly because Terminator 2 wasn't out yet. #Tetsujin28FX
"I can't wait until the world is at peace, so the super conductor chip can influence our lives!" ...I'm an optimist and even I'm sayin' "Keep waitin'." #Tetsujin28FX
I'm silent because...it's a clip show, I've said everything already. #Tetsujin28FX
So...why does Masato hate awards, again? #Tetsujin28FX
We now catch up and see...a still frame of our heroes walking into the UN to accept their award...AND clips from past episodes.
Somebody's budget is paper thiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnn... #Tetsujin28FX
We open recapping our heroes blowing up the comet and barley surviving...I think somebody's on a budget... #Tetsujin28FX
Ok, I don't care if the next ep is a follow up, let's break the rules and finish this sucker! It's the grand finale, and our heroes return home...but a last minute SOS dampers things! "A Toast To The Hero!" #Tetsujin28FX
Not bad. Typical disaster movie type anime, fun watch if you got some popcorn or are stuck in space with two robot friends. #Tetsujin28FX
Our heroes blow the thing up...even making the screen go to plaid...and they survive by the skin of their teeth and notice how small Earth seems in space.
youtu.be/4BphgKX-DZE?...
#Tetsujin28FX
"Saburo, are you ok!?"
youtu.be/AE5RDDk0-DQ?...
#Tetsujin28FX #MST3K
So, now the plan is launch Tetsujin and Black Ox into space and hook 'em up to make the Genocide Buster and blow up the dang thing!
...just...whoever does might not come back... #Tetsujin28FX
And after her own robot goes nuts, the doc she viewed as evil...jumps in and saves her angry ass...but, again, we're screwed. #Tetsujin28FX
Well, needless to say, we're all screwed thanks to Scarlet's PTSD and anger...and it's NOW that Scarlet has a flashback to mom saying "Not everybody is good or evil, just know the person." #Tetsujin28FX
Masato jumps in to make Scarlet doesn't kill the doc...only for his mom to jump in to make sure he doesn't take the bullet... #Tetsujin28FX
Scarlet's fake robot blows itself up and wrecks things while the doc does indeed recognize Scarlet...as the guy who refuses to let her mom on an overcrowded raft during a drowning...
So...yeah, we're fucked over MULTIPLE misunderstandings and anger. #Tetsujin28FX
Scarlet shows up and is ready to wreck the transporter, again, she thinks this is all fake because of something involving her vengeance and one of the docs...because he killed her mom when the white comet was present the last time?
...uh...what? #Tetsujin28FX
So, here's the thing: I love people, people are great. It's the PUBLIC that drives me nuts!
Case in point, everybody thinks they're making escape ships and screwing the rest of us over...and Scarlet Rose thinks it's a trick by one of the docs! #Tetsujin28FX
So, yeah, comet strikes Earth, big enough that if it hits the Southern atmosphere, EVERYTHING gets screwed, be it a direct hit or the aftermath. The plan? Matter transport! Zap the thing to who knows where! #Tetsujin28FX
We open with a space station saying a comet has changed course and is gonna hit Earth...right before it goes through them and blows them up.
Hey, we're at the disaster movie plot of this show, cliches-o-plenty. #Tetsujin28FX
Up next, well, it was bound to happen with this. The "Earth's about to get hit by a comet" episode. You'd think we'd be gun ho about staying alive...except Scarlet goes and wrecks the thing that'd save us from it. "A Gift To The Future!" #Tetsujin28FX
