The story continues... Instinctively, Johnny dodges the crude missile! However, the same can not be said for "Cyclops" who is not able to do the same. The missile impales "Cyclops." As he falls, "Cyclops" recalls a jumble of memories not of Earth. He then reverts to his natural form, revealing these "X-Men" are actually Skrulls in disguise. Three hundred yards away, "Storm" stands before the fallen Gladiator, telling him that his final moment is at hand. She tells him to bid his farewell to the cosmos! Gladiator realises that "Storm" is telling the truth. Her blast has generated radiation, which burns to the core of his being. Just as Gladiator contemplates his fate, the warrior realises his surrender only comes at the instant of his death. He is a warrior, first, last and always! Gladiator then rips up the ground beneath "Storm" disrupting her balance. Gladiator's powers returns and he proceeds to finish off his opponent when suddenly, he is stopped in his tracks! Gladiator believes a Skrull masquerading as Mr. Fantastic has pulled him away from the battle with "Storm." Gladiator rises to his feet to confront who he thinks is a Skrull, telling the shape-shifter he has smashed him once and will do so again. Mr. Fantastic stands his ground, telling Gladiator he is wrong in his assumptions. Reed says, Gladiator is also wrong if he thinks he can harm the Fantastic Four. Gladiator retaliates with an immeasurably powerful attack, but much to his surprise, Mr. Fantastic is still standing! Reed claims he has deduced the secret to Gladiator's powers and cancelled it. When the Shi'ar warrior tries to strike Reed, he is shocked when his blur of striking blows do nothing against his foe. Gladiator even uses a girder against Reed but to no avail. Even his optic beams have no effect. When Gladiator's confidence is severely shaken, Reed commands Sue to attack! Sue manages to knock out Gladiator with an invisible battering ram! The Byrne Files. As it turns out, the "Reed Richards" that Gladiator was fighting is really Captain America. Captain America was disguised by Reed's mento-projector, dodging the alien's blows with his indestructible shield. Reed explains that Gladiator's powers are psionic in nature. Gladiator's powers are based on his own faith in his powers. When Reed was able to successfully shake Gladiator's confidence, it left him vulnerable to Sue's sneak attack. High above the skies of New York, the Human Torch is being pursued by "Angel" and "Storm." Johnny realises they're not the X-Men but are actually Skrulls. He wonders what they actually know about the shape shifters as only the Super Skrull really has powers. Johnny decides to see how these Skrulls will fare when he pushes his speed to near super-sonic levels. The Skrulls somehow are able to stay with the Human Torch. The Gladiator tells Reed that they have nothing to fear from him. He says that he was dazed and confused after his first encounter with the Skrulls. Captain America says this explains why his shield was inefficient against the "X-Men." "Colossus" was apparently using an energy field, a force blast that Captain America mistook for his strength. The Thing then asks, "What are we going to do with the defeated Skrulls?" Having realized the error that he has made, Gladiator sheepishly tells the Fantastic Four that he will take the Skrulls into custody.
