1️⃣ Adultery
1 of my fave songs ever; brutally searching lyrics skate a distinctive melody & rousing chorus alternating joy/resignation; Deborah soars. Composed/written by band core: Helen Carter, Dorland Bray & Stephen Philip.

2️⃣ King of Moomba
The Moomba Festival in Melbourne is held each March on the labour day long weekend with Monarchs now named (King & Queen since 2010), the origins of the name: 1951 play “An Aboriginal Moomba: Out of the Dark”

3️⃣ The Happiest Place in Town
The closest track to a ballad on the album yet something else; this gently mysterious ditty is beautifully melancholic in Deborah’s way; in a manner reminding me of my favourite Abba songs, oddly.

4️⃣ Take Me Anywhere
Dreamiest song with Deborah’s voice taking flight; beautiful, soaring song.

5️⃣ Haunt You
The 4th single skimmed the top 100 at #91, a very late 80s quasi-alternative tune reminding me alternately of The Smiths, early Hunters and Collectors and R.E.M with its guitars, inviting grooves and ominous drums.

6️⃣ Desert Song
Deborah’s voice is supreme on this bluesy country-tinged song which crosses a few genre styles and which, for some reason, brings some Eurythmics vibes to me, maybe the vocal echo notes deep in the track.

7️⃣ Wild and Blue
A rollicking tune that the band does so well;
a lyrical adventure i am still to resolve but a joyous song.

8️⃣ That Hanging Business
Frenetic, dark harmonica zinging track is reminiscent of “The The” by way of “Blondie”. A fascinating tune with Deborah in punky, commanding vocal form and the band buzzing and zooming.

9️⃣ Heads Will Roll
Something so 1987 Australia about this song;the sounds of new wave, ska-pop, trumpets and sax creating a party atmosphere while the lyrics prowl the gamut of emotions and experiences.

Nov. Artist LP is Do-Ré-Mi; led by Deborah Conway (lead vocals) with Dorland Bray (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Helen Carter (bass, backing vocals) and Stephen Philip (guitars); this 2nd album was a big love in 1988. A fierce, distinctive band.

1️⃣ 0️⃣ Friends Like You
Despite their 2nd album title, the band continued to deliver biting, sassy lyrics with sharp, short tunes like this one. Reminiscent of their 1st album “Domestic Harmony” than some of my fave tracks here.
