About the Album:
This is the soundtrack Thelonious Monk recorded for Roger Vadim's 1959 French film Les Liaisons dangereuses (based on the classic 18th-century novel). The film was a modern adaptation set in contemporary France, and Monk's music provided a perfect jazz noir accompaniment. This is one of the rare instances where Monk composed for film.
The Setting:
A collection space with warm string lights creating ambiance behind a wooden nude sculpture, extensive book collection visible on the upper shelves, and additional records below.
A culturally significant album bridging jazz and French New Wave cinema - perfectly aligned with interests in both jazz and French film.
