this is a bronze casting of a triceratops brain, it was cast from a mold made out of an actual fossilized triceratops skull brain case, and is as true-to-life as such a casting could be. #thingthursday

Today's #ThingThursday is one of my favourite archive finds - its a shame its just a photocopy! This is a 'last-ditcher's' pass to get onto the last train or other transport out of Rangoon. These were issued to the 600 or so who responsible for the demolitions of vital infrastructure in February.

A photo of various pieces of the stones named above. There is a pink and yellowish piece of novakulite from Arkansas on the left, a few lake Superior agates with intact skin that you can't really see into, a piece of smoky quartz, a couple pieces of chert, and some pieces of Jasper. Around two dozen stones and all with a penny for scale, they are all larger than a penny, but a couple of them, not by much.

My fingers holding up a really beautiful piece of Jasper that shows stripes of yellow, green, orange, blue, black, white in some places, and red. It almost looks like the Aurora over a town at night

For #ThingThursday, I've been pulling together rocks from my collection that I want to tumble or cut/face grind before tumbling. These are all quartz, quartzite, agate, novaculite, or jasper, including my favorite piece of jasper I've found, so far.

The ancient amphora in the Met reminded me of this: a perfume vial, mother-of-pearl and (?) brass, about 2 in. long.

I often wondered what era it might be - it's an item from the mother-or-grandmother hoard - and found lot of them for sale on line, designated as Victorian. 📷me #ThingThursday

It's #ThingThursday! This week this is my Kodak Retina II Type 142-made between 1937-39 in Stuttgart-I bought this just before I went on school trips to the FWW battlefields, Auschwitz and Munich. Some really haunting photos, like the ones at Hooge Crater Museum, and the gate outside Auschwitz I.

Been a while, but here's a #thingthursday for ya! My favorite lighter ever. Mom got it for me shortly after I was out of high school. I love my little metal froggy. He likes to start fires, just like me.

Do you have a favorite lighter? I'd love to see it if you do!

Slightly quaint little thing for #ThingThursday - my Great-Grandfather Jasper Botten's Home Guard shooting competition trophy from 1941. It's barely 10cms tall, but I love it and my Grandfather was rather proud of his old man's achievement - he would have been ten in 1931...

#ThingThursday this Energizer-brand flashlight I inherited: no way to open it up to replace batteries. I broke it open, replaced them, fixed it with packing tape. I was like, is this for real, a “single use” flashligh? Yes.

#ThingThursday - a second #Shrok has been built from the leftover rocks I had! I'm still waiting for the glue to dry & may add some more pieces for the arms, but this 2nd one could possibly "Fi-ore-na"?
Follow your dreams, everyone! 🪨

P.S. I'll be arranging shipping for both to @ziibiing.com soon.✨

Since y’all seem to really enjoy drinkware for #ThingThursday, here is one of my favorite mugs. It was a thrifted gift from a friend and it’s too special for coffee. It lives on my desk and holds random crap.

It's #ThingThursday (it's a thing!), & is a little bit special. My great-grandfather Jasper Botten's Soldier's Small Book, his Pay Book, & a little pocket history of the 1st Royal Sussex Regt that he had clearly got from someone else. He spent the FWW on garrison duty, which maybe saved his life.

White coffee mug with a green graphic, featuring a leaping trout going after a fishing fly, with the fly fisher silhouetted in the background. Arching text around the trout reads "NEC-IV Grand River 1997" and below the trout in large all caps is "Flyfish@"

"NEC-IV" stands for 4th annual Northeast Conclave, an in-person gathering of the "Flyfish@" email listserv. still hosted out of the University of Kentucky, it has members from all over the world but the biggest annual gatherings are in the Northeastern US. This 4th one was a rare Canadian exception

Sadly, Facebook literally decimated the traffic on that group
