The sculpture appears as a framed window or door both in and viewing a clearing in the upper left of a green woodland with lush green grasses. Sunlight fills the clearing beyond the structure. Depth of the piece (several feet thick) is elusive. The rectangular frame is filled with metal tubing of various diameters (between 8 and 2 inches, inclusive) set lengthwise and viewed end-on. Interior shadows offer a hint as light from the far ends of the tubes is occluded presenting oblong cutout views of the scene behind the sculpture as if it were a habitat for gigantic mason bees. # # #

A personally crafted 2024 derby party hat to match my wife's dress. Each hat matches the colors of whatever she wears each year. The scene is beneath a gigantic white lawn tent. The model, viewed from her right rear shoulder is seated in a round-back wooden chair. The table is round and set with a white cloth imprinted with blue flowers and birds. A copper-clad mint julep cup is set near a plate. The hat fills most of the upper half of the image. The dress fills most of the lower half. The hat is broad-brimmed and solid white draping rearward beyond the collar of the dress and sweeping up to the right at a 45-degree angle. It is set with multiple pastel and bright (near-fluorescent) colors of artificial flowers, ribbons, greenery, feathers, and butterflies closely mimicking the colors and patterns of the dress. Colors include hot pink, pink, yellow, orange, red, leaf green, lime green, chartreuse, black, red-orange, and a white spray of baby's breath.
Before MAGA, a derby party was a delightful thing. I've made my wife a new hat each year. She's worth it and I'm a creative. (Cheap is just a plus.)
