An onion-shaped silver pocket watch engraved with a rustic scene.
A rectangular art deco wristwatch with jumping hours.
A very flat silver pocket watch with jumping hours and a day/date complication.
A rectangular wristwatch with dials for minutes and seconds and a jumping hour window.
We hosted some gorgeous vintage Audemars Piguet watches at the #TimeLibrary this week.

A newspaper article titled "Twentieth Century Plea for the Rod" with an illustration of a man beating a boy with a cane.
Today from the #archives of the #TimeLibrary: Twentieth Century Plea for the Rod.

A cardboard building filled with zines.
Four glowing interactive kinetic installations.
A mechanical gizmo in the shape of a man's face and a blob pulsating in a jar.
A set of knitted clocks.
The latest student kinetic time installations are all set up in the #TimeLibrary! They are adorable and clever and creative.
I have a lot of favourites but I do particularly enjoy the high tide indicator that lets you "pour" out the electronic water.
A diagram showing the development of electronic watches from motorised watches through to tuning fork watches and finally digital quartz watches.
Today from the #archives of the #TimeLibrary: the evolution of electronic watches. Yes, they used to have tuning forks in them!

A sepia photograph of a man with a short beard wearing a tuxedo jacket. He bears an uncanny resemblance to actor John Krasinski.
From the #archives of the #TimeLibrary: a watchmaker from about 1887. You can't tell me John Krasinski is not a time traveller.

"How to prepare & consume a New York gourmet's delight". This drawing shows a diagram of a bagel sandwich. The ingredients are labeled with the names of watch organisations. At the bottom of the page an arrow shows the bagel going into a man's mouth.
Today from the #archives of the #TimeLibrary! WTF is going on here?

Come visit the #TimeLibrary where I work! We have cool things!

If you're out and about in #NewYork today, come cool off in the #TimeLibrary with air conditioning and bottles of chilled water. While you're at it you can browse our books about #clocks and #watches and see some cool #antiques!
Also I hear the librarians are a delight.
Today from the #TimeLibrary: what every #archivist hates to see.
The cover of a Seth Thomas clock catalogue depicting a groom carrying his new wife over the threshold of their house. The wife is clutching a large shelf clock and both the man and the woman are laughing hysterically.
Today from the #TimeLibrary: a Seth Thomas clock catalogue from 1972. Warning: clocks may cause hilarity.

An ad for a Juvenia "mystere" watch with ghostly writing.
From the #TimeLibrary today: this as for a Juvenia mystery #wristwatch is everything.

A very 1960s watch ad showing two women in funky dresses.
From the #TimeLibrary: Can't find a date on this #Longines book. WorldShare says this was published in 1968 but where's the evidence?

A gold wristwatch with a white dial and dark burns radiating from the centre.
Today from the #TimeLibrary: this gorgeous #Hamilton #radium watch, c 1950, with wicked #radiation burns on the dial. Up until the 50s #watches were painted with #radioactive paint so you could read them in the dark. Many of the women who painted the dials got sick and died.

Wood shelving under construction.
Look at all this sexy shelving going up in the #TimeLibrary. That's right it's extra tall. Yeah, you like that, huh, you dirty book slut. Custom fitted. Think how many books these hushpuppies can hold. Stick your buffered, flip-top document boxes on the top the way I like it.

Librarian here. Can confirm, I will help you find the hell out of the information you need. Come to the #TimeLibrary and find out.
Today from the #TimeLibrary: When is a book not a book? I've written about all the weird things that are kind-of books. Maybe books? Sort-of books.

A wristwatch with a black dial and red accents. It has a fork-shaped logo and the word "Accutron".
My first purchase since working in the #TimeLibrary - a 1969 Bulova Accutron, the tuning fork watch! It has an actual tuning fork inside used to keep the time. Most watches go "tick tick tick" but this one *hums*.

Three colourful analogue wristwatches showing pager numbers on a digital display.
Colourful plastic telephones.
Three colourful Swatch mobile phones.
Today from the #TimeLibrary: #Swatch was absolutely killing it in 1993. They made a pager watch. And a whole-arse mobile phone! Amazing.

A howling man flees a sinister grandfather clock that appears to be chasing him.

The dial of a Metrictime long-case clock with 10 hours.
Detail from a metric perpetual calendar.
Today from the #TimeLibrary my article about a quirky #DecimalTime system from the mid-20th century United States.
But first how did we wind up with 24 hours in a day anyway? Why are there 60 minutes in an hour? Wouldn't 100 make more sense? Maybe...

Miniature subway turnstiles.
Two spinning wheels creating an interference pattern where they overlap.
A clock in the shape of a rotating cloud with LEDs indicating the time.

I never did an intro post so here goes! I'm a #librarian and #archivist in a #TimeLibrary dedicated to research into time and timekeeping. Formerly I was a computer programmer and novelist. Currently doing a master's in #Egyptology. Big on #DoctorWho, #FilmPhotography, and #Esperanto.
A Swatch catalogue depicting a young man wearing pink cartoon sunglasses.
You might think you're cool, but you will never be #Swatch 2015 cool.
