Small detail of either a sunshade or an aframe tent from an central Asian illumination. The tarp is blue with a semy of possibly gold stars, has black rope stress patches at the ends, and is held up with red ropes and red poles.
A blue tarp that is 7.5ft deep and 13 ft wide. A semy of white 8 pointed voided stars are being painted on surface.
Working on my blue sunshade, complete with a semy of 8 pointed voided stars (Populace badge of Tir Righ). Based on a small background detail of a 12th century illumination.

This horse mounted tent in red and blue is adorable, and might be my next tent.
Instead of a center pole design, the next tent will have a yurt ring, and vertical poles, much like in this illustration of a mongolian chegezi ger.
I have enough red and yellow canvas from previous tents / fabric stash to make a small tent.
Next possible tent could be based on this lovely example. Except no horses, and a yurt ring with poles I stead of a market umbrella.

My 8ft red timurid empire tent pole while pretty wasn't up to snuff, so I decided to make a new pole.
3" sewer pipe and pillar style candle holders are what I'm using. Same technique I used for my 6ft tall white tomurid empire tent.

My new sunshade erected Eric side at a local tourney. The angle of the photo makes it look lopsided, but it is fine.

Took the new sunshade to the Barony of Lionsgate Champions Tourney. It worked out pretty nicely. I only have a few tie straps left to sew onto it.
I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, as it doesn't fit with my more Timurid persona. We'll under a hundred all in.

The sunshade tarp is hung over its frame to dry after a 5:1 solution of naptha fuel and silicon had been applied.
So I just soaked the sunshade tarp in silicon dissolved in naptha.
Should dry clear and make the tarp full on waterproof.
If you try making your own silipoly tarp. Buy dishwasher gloves. Do not rely on latex gloves. My latex gloves broke, and I now have webbed fingers.

Thank goodness this particular folly is essentially done. The reed screens last weft reed was placed at Salon Artificum, thus ending 4 solid months of putzing around. An edge binding and some card woven straps are left. 14ft long... oof. Taking a week off.

I did the math. My reed screen is longer than a museum screen with the same reed count
Museum piece is ~1100 reeds / 284cm (9'4")
My screen is ~1100 reeds / 378cm (12'4")
So my reeds must be larger, or the screen artisans are choosing narrower reed size.

The indigo and madder (lac overdye) turned out even better than I anticipated.
I do wish I went with a narrower plain reed strip on the edges. There will be a binding strip sewed over it, but it's wider than I pictured in my head.

Trying to find a native reed grass to substitute the central Asian reeds. Bluestem is floppy, but twitch grass stands very straight. Six varieties of reeds growing in a grow tent. The twitch and bluestem are approximately 36" tall.
The Reed screen project is progressing. My ongoing testing of native reed substitutes for the central Asian reeds has already shown a front funner. I thought Big Bluestem would be the winner, but it's tending to be floppy. Twitch grass stands straighter. 36"

Just shy of 6 feet of wool wrapped reeds are done for my reed screen project. Madder red, and indigo blue stripes.
About 6ft of wool wrapped reeds have been completed on my period reed screen project. That gets me to approximately to the half way point. I will keep going until I run out of reeds or roving.
