Hotwheels Porsche 959

A typically 1980s Hotwheels rendition; little detail and very much a toy, but the twin-turbo, 4WD supercar was such an impressive car to me, I have a number of different models of it.

Intrigued by the design and the artwork which suggests it’s a reissue of an old model, but the casting is from 2017 and if anything the wheels look more like ‘70s Matchbox than Hotwheels.

It was it’s successor that stayed in production for 14 years that became the butt of jokes in the 1980s.  I would argue Škodas were still a cut above other contemporary Eastern product though.

The 8 litre, 16 cylinder, mid-engined hypercar that created the genre. Faster than any other road legal production car yet still drivable on city streets (if you had the £million or so to buy one).

Matchbox Toyota Prius

Undoubtedly a significant car, but never a looker until the 5th gen car appeared which really is a handsome beast. Not well captured by Matchbox, but the pano roof is hard to execute.

At £2.5 million give or take, it’s an unlikely police vehicle. I’m guessing the real thing did exist as a promo or in a computer game or something? It’s a nicely presented model, if rather silly.

Yes, it’s not technically a car, it’s a quadricycle.
I genuinely thought these vehicles would be a common sight on UK roads, but the purchase price was higher than initially stated and obtaining insurance also tricky. Good fun though (for short trips.)

And in appreciation, I'm going to share pics of my Tomica Porsche 935-78 Turbo, often nicknamed "Moby Dick" for the tail like shape of its spoiler. I took this lovely #diecast on a trip to Japan. Took some fun pics and bought a lot of Tomica cars.

The 993 is my favourite Porsche 911. Here’s 3 no name, made in China, examples. The road car and the race number 24 Carrera Cup are the same casting, the race number 36 with interesting sponsorship is a cruder, but characterful rendition.
