We’ve paused the #traveladdictshistory chat and will resume in October.
Brindisi, Puglia.
The end of the Via Appia, and where the Crusaders departed for the Holy Land.
The original Final Destination, according to Horace:
«Brindisi pone fine al lungo viaggio e fine alla mia satira»

Tempio San Giovanni al Sepolcro, Brindisi, Puglia.
Built at the end of the 11th Century AC by a Norman king returning from a crusade in the Holy Land.
Brindisi's harbor was the main departure point to Middle East during the age of the Crusaders (1096-1291).

The British Museum is one of the oldest and most controversial museums out there. Should you visit it when in London? Absolutely. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory #Museums #London
If you love castle ruins with great views, add the São Jorge Castle to your list of things to do in Lisbon. You'll love it. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory #CastleLovers

The Royal Ontario Museum (or the ROM) is one of my fave museums in Toronto. It has everything from Egyptian mummies and Roman busts to dinosaur bones and everything in between. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory
Warsaw is a great destination for museum, art and history lovers. The best part is that you can see many of them for free. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory
When it comes to UNESCO Heritage Sites, Canada holds its own with 20 spectacular places to add to your next Canadian adventure. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory #CanadaDay

Inspired by our last #historychat, I wrote a post about the best destinations for myths and legends. There are so many great places to contemplate whether the stories are real or imagined. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory
Distillery is one of my fave areas in Toronto. I recommend it to anyone visiting. #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory #CanadaTravel
The Tower of London was always on my bucket list and I was pumped to visit. The Beefeater tour was just a cherry on top. 10/10 recommend it #TravelAddicts #TravelAddictsHistory #LondonCalling

No such thing as late! We love the participation even after the chat is officially over 💪🏻

Same! For me, being in Greece makes every story and myth so real 🙀

I feel like Dracula plays such a prominent role that it’s hard to imagine that there can be anything else in Romanian folklore so that’s a good lesson
#TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
I love that! You really gotta appreciate good storytelling. Adding this to read later!

The ancients were really good at documenting and building temples to their gods so it makes sense that we know more about it rather than those passed down orally. I also love reading stories that incorporate folklore 🙌

I think these tours can sound very appealing but to actually do them is a different experience. I’ve visited former jails and that was a bit freaky
#TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
I think that would be an epic trip!

A6 - I would love to visit all the various islands from the medieval Irish voyage tales (well maybe not visit them all, just sail past the more dangerous ones)
#TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
A5 - I've done a couple "spooky" tours in Edinburgh (a ghost tour and a trip to Edinburgh dungeons) but not a huge fan. I love storytelling experiences though, they're so interesting. I've not done a specific myth-based tour but love it when they include myths.

A4 - It's hard to choose because I love them all. Ancient mythology tend to have more actual sites to visit, so it probably wins simply because I love historic sites. I really enjoy reading fiction based on folklore though!

A3 - When I was in Luang Prabang, I went to a storytelling evening and it included a lot of local legends about the landscape and that definitely influenced how I saw everything the next day while exploring.

A2 - I enjoyed visiting Bran Castle in Romania, they had sections on Romanian mythology so you could learn about other creatures from folklore.
Haw Par Villa in Singapore was also really cool - it's full of statues depicting scenes from Chinese folklore.
#TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
A1 - Greek mythology was definitely the biggest reason I wanted to travel to Greece. When I went to Rhodes, I ended up also flying to Athens so I could visit the Parthenon and loved visiting the museum seeing all the art depicting the gods. #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
Haha! Indeed. Apparently, there are a few possible sites but this particular one was the most ‘credible’.

Anytime!

What, wait! It’s over? Gosh, that hour just flew by! Thanks so much Kasia for this fun chat!
