Since being sworn in as the 47th president of the United States in January last year, Trump and his golfing exploits have cost American taxpayers a staggering amount of money. Across his first term as president, which started in 2017 and concluded four years later, Trump spent a reported $151.5 million in travel and security expenses. The time around, the 79-year-old has golfed 91 days out of 367 days since returning to office, which works out at 24.8% of his current presidency, according to DidTrumpGolfToday.com, who use POTUS's public schedule to trace his steps. The website also claims Trump's golfing exploits since returning to office have cost taxpayers an estimated $127,400,000 (£94,9m). It is said many of Trump's golfing trips are based at the Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, which costs an estimated $3.4 million in travel and security expenses, according to the Huffington Post. The single biggest expense, meanwhile, is Air Force One, the plane Trump uses to travel from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to Palm Beach International Airport. A report from AP has previously revealed that the aircraft costs roughly $200,000 per hour, according to Pentagon data. "But those figures only scratch the surface of the real cost," the report adds.  "There also are military cargo planes that travel ahead of the president to make sure his armored limousines are in place, not to mention the enormous security apparatus that follows the president everywhere." Trump has previously claimed he "doesn't get to practice much" when discussing his love for the game. Speaking in a Thanksgiving 2025 video call with U.S. military members, Trump said: “I know a lot about golf. I’ve won 38 club championships, and I don’t get to practice much. I won one last year.” “I won a club championship at a big club, beating a 27-year-old kid. I said, ‘You know, I’m decades older than you.’ But I said, ‘The fairway doesn’t know how old you are as you walk up the middle and he’s in the rough.’ I’ve been a good golfer over the years.” He added: “You know, club championships are our Majors, you know that, most people can’t play in them, they won’t. We’re talking about no strokes or anything else.”
