#Maila ( #30P) is strengthening again and will affect Papua New Guinea on Thursday. It could reach Cat 5 (AUS) strength before then.

#Vaianu ( #31P) is moving away from #Fiji and will become extratropical by Friday. It will bring dangerous conditions to New Zealand this weekend.

Severe TC #Vaianu is passing west of #Fiji & will track southward over the next few days. Vaianu will likely impact northern #NewZealand, including #Auckland, this weekend.

There are two nearly-identical storms centered just 1300 miles apart in the South Pacific. #Maila is near the Solomon Islands and #Vaianu is near Fiji.
I just started a radar loop for Vaianu from Nadi, Fiji. You can find that in the usual spot... this is the 618th radar loop in that archive.

Cyclone #Vaianu ( #31P) has wobbled a bit east during the past few hours, and that makes me more concerned about wind impacts in #Fiji, namely the Mamanuca Islands (home of #Survivor) and Viti Levu. These areas could see sustained storm-force winds and heavy rain during the next 12-18 hrs.

Cyclones #Maila ( #30P) and #Vaianu ( #31P) continue to churn in the SWPAC.

Maila is starting to level off but will impact PNG's Milne Bay Province w/hurricane force winds by midweek. TC impacts are rare there.

Vaianu will pass west of #Fiji and SW of #Tonga but could bring gale force winds.

There are now three TCs. #Indusa is no threat to land. #Maila will remain slow-moving in the Solomon Sea through midweek then can drift toward #Queensland late week. #Vaianu will bring rain & wind to #Fiji into Wednesday then may impact #NewZealand this weekend.
