Okay: roses are red? Yeah, so what else is new? Oh: the fact that you're still saying violets are "blue"?! Well, it's that time of year When I get on my rant About why all your Valentine's poems... I just can't. I have written a poem Ev'ry Valentine's Day For a number of years Now, and all I can say Is: it's possible I've Been a little too strict With regard to the "Things Worth Defending" I've picked. If you want to just limit Your roses to red...? And you want to say violets Are (ugh) blue instead...? Well, y'know what? Have at It, you hopeless romantic! For real—what exactly Has got me so frantic?
Could it be since I'm colorblind (Minor dichromacy!) Shots to my sore spot Demand more diplomacy? In a world where pure evil Is tinted dull orange; Where Power is White (Both domestic and foreign); Who am I to determine Which colors are which? In a nutshell: why must I continue to bitch? It just isn't my place To decide for the masses Which objects or hues Go in which color classes. I can leave that to assholes Who froth and insist That we separate hues (An idea I resist).
Is there anything worse Than a small-minded twit With a thing against colors? Like: who gives a shit? It's those fuckers—the ones Into greed and control— Upon whom I should Spew my best vitriol. So redden your roses! And violets? All blue! I was wrong; mea culpa; Apologies too. There are so many colors. No more sharp remarks! I can hug all the brights And feel snug in the darks. I see clouds of pure white, And the bluest of skies! It's a beautiful world! Yeah! In short: Fuck those guys. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone who isn't a piece of shit trying to fuck the rest of us out of a beautiful, peaceful, happy life.
