It's just hours until this astronomical event in the bright daytime sky. You'll need binoculars or a telescope to see it, and finding the Moon and Venus in the bright blue sky may be a challenge.

The times of the occultation of Venus will depend on an observer's location. From Britain, disappearance of Venus will happen around 12:40 to 12:55 BST, and reappearance around 14:00 to 14:15 BST.

The weather forecast looks very poor for me, as usual.

Venus and the Moon will lie 27 degrees from the Sun in the sky, and the light of the Sun may make them difficult to find in the bright sky. Certainly, a telescope or binoculars will be needed to see them.

Popular astronomy: the Moon will occult (pass in front of) the planet Venus in daylight on Friday, 19th September, as seen from some parts of the world, including Europe. Venus will disappear at the bright limb of the narrow crescent Moon, and reappear at the dark limb.

A stunning daytime photograph captures the moment a crescent moon occults Venus. Taken in Switzerland just before sunset, the image shows the moon's passage in front of Venus, a rare celestial event. Wispy clouds are visible in the upper left corner of the frame.
