#OTD 1849 wurde Alfred v. Tirpitz geboren. Er war ab 1897 Staatssekretär im Reichsmarineamts und lieferte sich ein Flottenwettrüsten mit GB. Im #WK1 blieb die Flotte tatenlos, die Skagerrakschlacht 1916 brachte wenig. Nach dem Krieg war er politisch aktiv. Er starb am 06. März 1930.
Die Büste von Karl von Müller hergestellt von Lilli Wislichenus Finzelberg, zeigt Kopf und Brust sowie den Orden Pour le Mérite. Sie stammt aus dem Nachlass Karl von Müller. DMM 2016-168-005

#OTD 1918 kehrte der #Hilfskreuzer SMS #Wolf nach 451 Tagen Feindfahrt zurück in den Heimathafen – die längste im #Wk1. Im Indischen Ozean hatte das Schiff 35 Handelsschiffe & 2 Kriegsschiffe versenkt. Dabei wurden Vorräte & Ausrüstung für die Weiterfahrt & 447 #Kriegsgefangene an Bord genommen.
Diese Vase aus unserer #Sammlung ist ein klassisches Mitbringsel aus der deutschen Kolonie in Tsingtau (Qingdao) vor dem #Wk1. Sie ist aus Messing gearbeitet und sehr aufwendig verziert. Der Matrose, der diese Vase mitbrachte, hatte seine Wehrdienstzeit in Tsingtau verbracht. #DepotDienstag

I had to provide evidence within four days of my hitherto "merely presumed" front-line service. Today my "Front-line service certificate" arrived from Munich. It attests "one engagement" and "trench warfare in French Flanders from 19.11.15-19.2.16." Eva immediately said that was not right, and indeed going through my letters I found that I was still at the front on April 4 and was only admitted to military hospital that day. I do not like to go through the dusty old bundles. Besides the certificate is sufficient. I will not complain for the time being.

#OTD 1914 wurde das deutsche U-Boot SM U15 unter dem Kommando von KptLt. Pohle auf seiner 2. Feindfahrt bei Fair Isle durch den brit. Kreuzer HMS #Birmingham gerammt und versenkt, wobei alle 29 Besatzungsmitglieder starben. U15 war damit das erste deutsche U-Boot welches im #Wk1 verloren ging.
