Merry was born in the Black Shroud, but his family relocated to Ala Gannha early on. He was very good friends with a little girl who was about his age, named Lyse.😉
They lost contact when their families fled separately, and mostly forgot about each other's existance for uh. 20 years??

Ayah writes poetry. Unfortunately, as a Bard, she knows enough about poetry to know her own poetry is really dramatically not very good, so she hides it. She'd really like to be better, so she keeps practicing... but she's nowhere near as good as she'd want to be to share it with others.
