The more I think about it the more I can see possibilities with the arrest, everything from reasons for TR people with Faile and others to leave the TR for a rescue to multiple options for Perrin vs Dain/Fain/Byer/Luc conflict and resolution.

Cut off from T'A'R outside of the normal cycle carves out a whole bunch of Mat's memories of past lives, giving him memory holes and command expertise.

Maybe it involves Elayne bonding him like Birgitte; I wouldn't mind that, since he's so closely tied to her for most of the books. But Nynaeve finally heals Mat by bringing him back into the world.
