‘Poor Things’ Writer Tony McNamara Named as Co-Writer for Taika Waititi’s ‘Star Wars’ Film Movie news updates continue to come out of _Star Wars_ Celebration. _The Mandalorian & Grogu_ panel began with a reminder that films from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Taika Waititi are in development, along with a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg. Shawn Levy then announced that his film would go into production this fall and introduced star Ryan Gosling. He revealed the title as _Star Wars: Starfighter_ and a May 2027 premiere. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has now provided further updates on the Waititi film. Speaking to _Screenrant_ , she indicated that it has been Taika’s schedule, and not hesitation from Lucasfilm, that has prevented the project from moving forward. > “Taika is on Taika time… I’ve just continually said to him, look, when you feel that you’re ready and you can really devote the time, we’re going to do it.
