Wanda was just 17 when she served courageously in the #WarsawUprising, under the codename Pączek (Donut) against the brutal Nazi German occupiers.

Yesterday, Janina Rożecka died at the age of 104.
During the German occupation she sheltered Jews (for which she was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations), as well as resistance members and weapons.
She also served as a nurse during the #WarsawUprising.

#OTD in 1944, during the #WarsawUprising, my beautiful great-grandmother, Zofia Langner, codename "Złomir" was killed during the bombing of Mokotów. The district was heavily targeted by the Luftwaffe and German heavy artillery because Mokotów was one of the last districts to fall.

Irena was running with a message from her commander to the insurgents located in the Polish Security Printing Works.
#OTD in 1944, 19-year-old nurse Aleksandra Irena Poznańska, codename "Alina", was killed during the #WarsawUprising.
She was killed in the Sióstr Elżbietanek Hospital in the Mokotów district after heavy bombing and artillery fire directed towards the hospital.
#OTD in 1944, 20-year-old Hubert Taczanowski, codename "Hubert", died in mysterious circumstances during the #WarsawUprising.
He was last seen OTD in the hospital on Długa Street.
#OTD in 1944, 21-year-old Mieczysław Węgrocki, codename "Kociak", was killed during the #WarsawUprising.
He was injured fighting in the Old Town. It is believed that it occurred at the "Miodowa" stronghold, where he was subsequently placed in a field hospital, possibly on Długa Street.

During the occupation, she joined the resistance movement and underwent extensive medical and intelligence training.

He was killed in the town of Wolica, south west of Warsaw in an area that was occupied by the Germans.

She was seriously injured during the bombing of her unit's church on Długa Street. They were stationed there at the time.

He was shot in the abdomen at the Warsaw University of Technology and taken to the field hospital on Lwowska Street, where Dr. Zbigniew Lewicki operated on him. He did not survive.
