Water pollutants: The invisible crisis Water is essential for food security, human health, and economic development. However, throughout the hydrological cycle, pollution is increasing as populations grow and climate change intensifies. Water pollutants come in many forms, often invisible to the naked eye. Some of the most common include fertilizers, plastics, wastewater, pharmaceuticals, hormones, industrial chemicals, petrochemicals, heavy metals, and mine drainage. Countries seeking to improve water quality face a major obstacle: a lack of data on their water resources. Nuclear and isotope techniques can help us understand the origin of water pollution and offer science-based solutions to mitigate this problem.

Are you interested in how constructed wetlands are beginning to be used for mining water remediation? This article talks about water pollution as an invisible crisis, types of water pollution, and solutions.
