Three little Hooded Mergansers cruising a waterway - two are females, the one in the lead may be a 1st year male. All 3 have slightly spiky head feathers, amber eyes, and thin orangish bills. Overall they are brown but with rusty colored head feathers.

Sitting in the middle left of the frame, a red breasted merganser hen, in scratching the back of her brown head with her dark pink leg and webbed foot. The position captured, is reminiscent of a person cupping their hand around their ear to hear better. The bird is rolled over a bit on its side in order to allow it to scratch with its foot, exposing its white belly. The bird sits atop calm blue waters with some ochre colors reflected from the park behind it.
