Dr. Fenton Sands was commissioned as a US Army officer this month in 1944. He was a member of the 477th Bombardier Group until the end of #WW2.
After the war, he received a PhD in agriculture and did international work.

US Navy Lt. Nathan G. Gordon was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroics #OTD in 1944 near Papua New Guinea.
He rescued multiple downed aviators in his PBY Catalina he nicknamed the "Arkansas Traveler" - this is a great story.
