A tree kangaroo, up a rainforest tree in the Wet Tropics region of Queensland, Australia.

A Lumholtz’s tree kangaroo.
Quirky facts:
They can leap about 18m to the ground.
They like time alone.
They only give birth to one joey a year.
They are rainforest regenerators, eating fruits and depositing those seeds through the forest.

A Bower's shrike-thrush - a songbird - is 1 of the species recorded in recent #bird surveys in #WetTropics upland #rainforests. Results show just how much healthy bird populations rely on healthy forests. We are surveying in areas, & around areas, where we'll be expanding forests.

Our regions and economies rely on a healthy, resilient environment. We need more investment and we need to build capacity in a restoration sector that has traditionally been reliant on volunteers. That starts with more collaboration, sharing knowledge and resources...

With world heritage rainforest on 1 side & the Great Barrier Reef on the other, the city of Cairns has a lot to offer - & a lot to watch over.

That's why we need to work together, think innovatively & develop sustainable solutions. Working towards a smart green economy...

While looking for frogs: A discovery in the half-light of early morning... This Christmas orchid (Calanthe triplicata) was admired by field officers on rainforested Mt Lewis in the Wet Tropics.
It's also where we are monitoring the endangered mountain-top nursery frog.

A passion for fruit makes the southern cassowary a super-sized helper in Wet Tropics rainforests. They swallow native fruits whole, the seeds remain intact and while they roam the rainforest their digestive processes help it to grow.

Reasons we love mangroves: They reduce the force of waves and help to prevent coastal erosion, they store carbon in their roots and soil, helping to reduce greenhouse gases, and they support biodiversity by being breeding grounds for marine life.
