A photograph of wild garlic leaves in a glass bowl of water. The leaves are long and broad, and a bright green colour.
Went for a short walk in the local woodlands and collected some of this for today’s lunch and dinner

Pic of a pretty flame point Siamese kitty with cicada wings sticking out of their mouth, a screenshot from a video, and my reply, "I need to ask that cat how it tastes 'cause it's been driving me crazy since that one time the FDA was like, "don't eat the cicadas if you have a shrimp allergy" that time the brood X came out and was everywhere. So... they might taste like shellfish?"
Okay, so, has anyone ever eaten a cicada? Do they taste like shrimp, clams, oyster?

Serviceberries! I've tasted serviceberries in BC and found them so-so, but these ones I picked during a visit to Newfoundland are sweet, and delicious. Blueberry meets apple/pear, for me, although some describe the flavour as almondy.

A very young purslane plant about 2-3 cm tall. At the top are three small green leaves shaped like a point at the stem and widening out to more of an oval shape at the outer end. There are two somewhat larger leaves coming out from the stem just below and they are wider at their ends and the outer edge flat.
Here’s a baby purslane. A tasty wild salad green when young. I haven’t noticed them flowering before. I’m going to pay more attention because I’m curious about how their seed dispersal mechanisms work. They seem to find new soil I haven’t mulched very quickly!
A closeup of a carpet of wild purslane. These plants are about 20-30 cm tall and have many small leaves branching out from the main stems which are greenish red. The leaves are shaped a bit like elongated hearts with the wider end away from the stem.
I went across the valley to do a little garden work and found a carpet of young purslane where I needed to weed. t’s a great wild salad green! I brought a bunch home.

Ground beans! Amphicarpaea bracteata has edible beans and roots. It is a member of the pea family, so it enriches the soil. But people mistake it for poison ivy and eradicate it.
