Donatello is an older #wildmustang, though you can’t tell by the way he runs! He went thru five adopters, countless trainers, starvation, seizure by law enforcement, and a couple rescues before finding lifelong #sanctuary at #Skydog. An all white wild mustang stares directly at the viewer. It’s mane and tail a little a flutter an glistening in the back lit sun. The horse has many scars on its body. It’s nose a pale pink, its stare is deep and brooding. I saw this horse through binoculars and I positioned myself to get close to him. What you don’t see is the 20 other horses out of frame. They could have easily stomped me. But this beautiful horse and I locked eyes. He then charged me. Those images are out of focus and blurry cuz I was scared for my life. He stopped about 10 feet from me and we just stared at each other. I began to sing out loud, Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet to call him and myself. I then began photographing the other horses and he just watched me. This was back in 2018. What a joy.

A beautiful wild mustang passes by me out in the open range of Sand Wash Basin in Colorado. He's a deep, glossy brown, with a white stripe down his nose, and black mane and tail.

While on my trip to see Greater Sage-grouse several weeks ago, I stopped at Sand Wash Basin for the first time. I'm not really a 'horse person' but wild mustangs just draw me in.
