Finished #WildSeed and #OctaviaEButler has become one of my fave authors. This novel has such an out-there premise encompassing sci fi, myth, eugenics, race, and so much more, but the story is always grounded in nuanced and fascinating characters and relationships. Fantastic.

Wild Seed book plus micron pen plus text: January 27th, 2025 I was feeling pretty lazy today even though I try to stick to a work schedule. I just wanted to finish the book I had going. “Wild Seed”. Keri said it was a good introduction to Octavia Butler. I tried getting in "The Parable of the Sower" but it was way too much like what is in progress now. Mom had an appetite for painful literature. She would offer her books to me and many I couldn’t take. I have a sane aversion to focusing on cruelty. It finds me anyway. For my mental health, my reading list usually centers events in the distant past. “Wild Seed” is centered on two nearly immortal beings with slavery - africa to the us- as the setting. Another aspect is one immortal has only one ability -to extend their own life by jumping into the living body of another (which kills that person). The other immortal has many talents but falls under the control of the other because there is no way to defeat someone who can just steal your body. In other news, part of my laziness is from hearing from a recruiter with hopeful news. Let’s see.
