Landscape photograph of a dramatic river canyon. The river is visible lower right snaking its way from a somewhat broader valley into a canyon bounded by steep rocky slopes. At left, the canyon rises up to a craggy summit with sunlight playing on its ridges in contrast to the shadows below. The slopes are mostly rock outcrops and talus with only scattered trees, which appear quite small against the huge slopes. Upstream, dark mountains are visible and the sky above is almost entirely filled with clouds.

A clear green wilderness river flowing into a whitewater rapid. Three round gray granitic boulders protrude from the water in the foreground, while the bottom of a mossy stone cliff is visible across the river. Most of the scene is taken up by the river's flow, which is glassy and green on the entrance tongue at left, with large boulders clearly visible under the surface of the clear water. Increasing amounts of whitewater are visible as the water flows to the rights, forming a graceful arrangement of diagonal lateral waves proceeding to small pourovers.
