Back yesterday from Winter Field Day in the Mojave Trails National Monument on Old Patton Road. Myself and Clifford KK6QMS. Operated 1M ORG, ended with 505 contacts (but might have to throw a couple out). [Thread] #WinterFieldDay #HamRadio #AmateurRadio

Survived winter field day, going to do a blog post on it. Weather and site challenges required us to think on the fly. But in the end we got 505 QSO’s and beat last year with only 1 HF station!

Some friends and I had a fantastic #winterfieldday weekend at a state park cabin. How many radios do 3 people need? 30ish? 😂 We used meshtastic, erected a variety of wire, horizontal and loop antennas, used phone modes, data modes and cw/morse code and much more. Can’t wait for next year! #hamradio

Along the right-hand side is the red post with the antenna, and a bit further on you can make out a yellow pole. The ground is frozen solid, so the antenna wire is strung up in the tree branches.

This weekend was #WinterFieldDay, so I packed up my gear and headed out to a park.
I arrived around 16:10Z or so, and after discovering the ground was frozen solid and uncooperative, I logged my first contact by 16:45Z.

A great #WinterFieldDay in the books! Thanks to the Humboldt County EMA for letting us kick the tires on the emergency trailer and the Springvale ARC for organizing things. The club's first official event made lots of contacts on SSB, CW, and digital. Always fun to spend a day playing #HamRadio.
