One of the #Wollemi cuttings has grown a cone! For some reason I thought they would revert to sapling form, but no of course they wouldn’t.

6. So the questions I want to see asked re the #EPBC, & the political response, are:
* Would the proposed amendments save globally valued scientific marvels like #Nilpena?
* Would they save our human heritage, like #Murujuga?
*Would they save Asterolasia, or #Wollemi pines?

Endangered plant that grows only in one place shows signs of flourishing There are signs a critically endangered plant that grows on a rural property near Armidale could have a prosperous future.

5. Time for the media to interrogate the cost of unabated rapid climate change and biodiversity loss. There are good stories to celebrate - like the Nilpena conservation, protection of native species like Asterolasia (article below) & the #Wollemi pine. /6 www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...

Lovely display in the Evolution Garden @nhm-london.bsky.social. #Wollemia nobilis, #Wollemi Pine, in front a a dinosaur. A living fossil, thought extinct and only discovered in Australia in 1994, is a member of the Araucariaceae family. As is the monkey puzzle (Araucaria araucana) planted nearby.

A cute little Wollemi pine, Wollemia nobilis, at a friend’s arboretum. It was ravaged by cows some years back but has bounced back!

Wollemi pine | Australian threatened plants | NSW National Parks The critically endangered Wollemi pine is one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees. With less than 46 adult trees in the wild, this Australian species has special protections to ensure its survival.

This weekend I had the pleasure of having a long chat w a neighbor - his story of moving from #Poland to #UK to #Australia. His family's stories of surviving the war, reunion, & life. Now showing us a rare #Wollemi pine tree that he planted #multicultural www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/plants-and-a...

Inherited this beautiful #Wollemi pine when my parents had to move. Pushing out the soft apple green foliage now. One of the world's oldest trees. Called a "living fossil", "dinosaur tree", belonging to a 200 million yr old plant family. Learn more here: www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/plants-and-a...

Such a great tree...

"According to fossil records, the critically endangered "dinosaur tree" dates back more than 90 million years, and was presumed to have gone extinct around 2 million years ago, until a remnant grove was stumbled upon in 1994."
