Book excerpt set shortly after Geneviève Bujold quit VOY; Nana Visitor speaking : 'The excitement surrounding a female captain was such that it overcame me as well, and I remember catching Rick Berman on the street in front of Stage 4 and passionately telling him I could do the role. He was kind. He said the obvious: We need you on DS9. I said that I could do both. It shows you what a big deal this character was; for the length of our conversation, I had complerely lost my mind. Kate Mulgrew literally came to the rescue, returning from a vacation in Ireland, and giving an audition that left the producers knowing that they had found their captain.'

Still reading Nana Visitor's book "Open a Channel: A Woman's Trek" and it's very good. But from a Trek gossip standpoint, her anecdote that she pitched Rick Berman that should could do DS9 and VOY at the same time is wild.
