The center front of a “Baby Shark” button-up dress from Zuri, with two embroidered mends on either side of the placket. The fabric has a faded blue background covered with swarming reddish black fish with white eyes. The mend on the lower right (worn on the left) is a crooked little fish in a lighter and greener blue than the background, swimming in between two of the black fish. It’s the oldest mend. Maybe I should stitch the fish an eye? In the upper left, I made a little sea shell with blue and green thread.
A closeup of the lower skirt of the baby shark dress, where I covered a hole in the fabric with a starfish in blue, teal, and purple. This was my second mend, and I doodle-stitched it in several layers until I was reasonably happy with the result. The baby sharks on the dress were black when I got it, but repeated washing has worn away the dye so that they’re now dark purply red with a thick black outline.
A closer close up of the embroidered shell on the right upper chest (just to the left of the placket as viewed). I sewed it just after the starfish. The base of the shell is pale green, and the top is woven with a fan of pale green as the warp and light blue as the weft. The thread in all the mends is Wonderfil Spaghetti Thread that I bought for a math fashion project and will be using for years to come.
For some reason, someone (mouse?) keeps chewing little holes into this particular dress. So in between bouts of knitting 🧶, I’ve been improvising some vaguely coordinating mends. Trying to level up my embroidery skills, I guess.
