Pastel Green Wrasse (Halichoeres chloropterus) - adults &, variety of looks, juveniles - are common around the sea grass beds at @elrioymar. There are also Pinstriped (H. melanurus) & Zigzag (H. scapularis) wrasse, the latter liking the sand. #WrasseWednesday #FishFriday 11/25

Other maori wrasses at @ElRioyMar are common Linedcheek (Oxycheilinus digramma) & a few Slender (O. celebicus). There are also Threeline Wrasse (Stethojulis trilineata) & of course lots of hard working Bluestreak Cleaners (Labroides dimidiatus). #WrasseWednesday #FishFriday 10/25

The #coralreef @elrioymar is good for maori wrasse with lots Redbreast (Cheilinus fasciatus) & Floral (C. chlorourus) wrasses & even a young Napolean (C. undulatus). Anchor Tuskfish (Choerodon anchorago) are common. #WrasseWednesday #oceananimals #FishFriday #coron #palawan 9/25

There are even yellow morphs of Latent Slingjaw Wrasse (Epibulus brevis) @elrioymar plus the less showy cousin, Slingjaw Wrasse (E. insidiator).
Also a few Blackeye Thicklip (Hemigymnus melapterus) & the ubiquitous Moon Wrasse (Thalassoma lunare). #coralreef #WrasseWednesday

It's #WrasseWednesday and we're honouring Halichoeres ornatissimus—a type of Christmas wrasse. This tropical reef fish is endemic to Hawaii and named for its green and red colour pattern 🌸🎄🐠

Ornate (Thalassoma pavo), Peacock (Symphodus tinca) - here's a less common terminal male & Ocellated (S. ocellatus) wrasses all common in NW Sicily. Surprisingly, Rainbow Wrasse (Coris julis) is less so.

Ocellated Wrasse (Symphodus ocellatus) more abundant at Cabo de Palos than I've ever seen elsewhere. Often saw groups of young. V varied in colour, from the plain grey, through to mottled green and pure green over the sea grass beds. #wrassewednesday #Mediterranean #Spain

At Aqaba South Beach #coralreef, only saw 1 big ♂️Broomtail Wrasse (Cheilinus lunulatus), ♀️ commoner, but more Abudjubbe Wrasse (C. abudjubbe).

Now wrasse: gorgeous Klunzinger's (Thalassoma klunzingeri) is one of commonest, bombing over #coralreef at Aqaba South Beach.
Also lots Bluelined (Stethojulis albovittata) but rather few Sixline (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia), here with a pink Finger Coral. #WrasseWednesday

Peacocks often hang vertically asking to be cleaned.
Here a juv Ocellated Wrasse takes up invite. (Juv Axillary, Peacock & Rainbow wrasse also clean; Black-taileds are lifelong cleaners).

Plenty of large Brown Wrasse at Plage de La Palud, Port-cros, here attended by Ocellated & Rainbow Wrasse.

Black-tailed Wrasse offering cleaning services, here to a large Mediterranean White Seabream.
Saw the largest Peacock Wrasses have ever seen.

Here's a "super male" Rainbow Wrasse (Coris julis) with a female. Also, clockwise from top left, Grey (Symphodus cinerus) & Axillary Wrasses (S. mediterraneus) as well as the more common Five-spotted Wrasse (S. roissali).

Ornate Wrasse abundant at Porquerolles, esp. females (top). Males more common on rough, wave-lashed promontories.
Black-tailed Wrasse (Symphodus melanocercus) are the main cleaner fish, their services especially popular with the plentiful Peacock Wrasses. #WrasseWednesday
