It’s a wrap on Fall 2025 #writingcenter work at #kenyon #kenyoncollege. We had 944 appointments, assisted with 243 English essays (our most popular discipline this semester but we do help with writing across ALL disciplines), & were asked most often to help writers with “articulating my ideas.”

This image’s title asks: “who does a writing center help?” Explaining “We support all of the following individuals in groups and in one-on-one appointments:

Currently-enrolled Kenyon students studying in all majors, disciplines, concentrations, and minors (we’re not just for English papers).

Alumni of Kenyon

Faculty and staff

A small portion of local high school students applying to various colleges and universities.”

It also reminds you where you can go: OWL.Kenyon.edu is where you go to make online and in-person appointments.

This image’s title asks: “who doesn’t a writing center help?” And explains: We will not support writers who:

Are in violation of campus policies regarding student conduct, academic integrity, Title IX, and so forth

Want to plagiarize their work

Are not engaged in the tutoring process (you can come back another day!); sometimes you’re just not feeling it and we understand!”

It also shares you can send questions to WritingCenter@Kenyon.edu

The image shares what a writing center does, which includes: We will often do some combination of the following:

Ask what you want to work on

Advise you on what to change (and explain why)

Read your work out loud so we can hear as well as see areas of concern

Address higher-order concerns first (those areas which impact your grade most).

Next to an image of people studying, it reminds you: You can start making appointments the second week of the semester!

This image shares some of the things our writing center doesn’t do, including: We will not do the following:

Write your paper or presentation for you.

Work on your paper or presentation without you present (you MUST actively attend the session in person or online; we are not a place where you drop off your work and pick it up later).

Give you a grade or advocate to your professor for you to earn a certain grade.

This image is titled: “what is a writing center?” It then explains: “It is a space for ALL writers in a campus community to get support. This support can include our offering a second perspective on a piece of writing; giving you advice on how to deliver a speech; providing guidance regarding a professor’s expectations; sharing advice on how to write in a specific genre; listening to a piece of writing you created for fun;  and SO MUCH MORE! Just ask! You can email us at WritingCenter@kenyon.edu! A clip art picture of people working on a presentation is included.

This image is titled what *isn’t* a writing center. It explains: It is NOT a space in which we’ll assign grades; sit in judgement of you or your work; help you with take-home exams or quizzes (without your professor’s written approval); welcome perspectives which don’t respect others’ lived experiences; or do your work for you. We stop. Collaborate. And listen. You can email us at WritingCenter@kenyon.edu. A clip art picture of people working on a presentation is included.
