This is just my opinion, but I think of the literary definition of an “epic.” Massive story (though it doesn’t have to be tome length) or a vast scope.
Also usually involves a major quest + high stakes.
So for me, an epic can be high OR low fantasy. It’s all about the scope.

Is this purely a “I know it when I see it” kind of definition?
I ask because, even after reading plenty of fantasy, epic or otherwise, today’s workshop has me questioning where the genre line falls.

I do minimal edits while writing an initial draft because it's easy to get bogged down and lose momentum.
For draft 2, I commit to an almost wholesale rewrite. 30-50% delta is not at all uncommon.

Always keeping the clarity of my themes in mind, and removing or rewriting anything that runs counter to them or just doesn’t “jive”.
Thant and ruthlessly hunting down repeated words. At best I can keep anything not a pronoun or name down to once a page. More often once per paragraph.
