Friendship is one of the major-est themes in the Prophecies duology, and none of the MCs are looking for romance - partly because the story doesn't need it, and partly because I'm tired of friendship being treated as inferior to romantic love.

I rebuild at each (early) draft so that details don't accidentally become load-bearing.
Do you ever rewrite from scratch or build from existing drafts? I always build from the first draft. #writingq #WritingCommunity
Asorea’s calendar is split into 2 months for each element, and each week within that gets an attribute. Eg Guardian of Fire, Guardian of Air, Gatherer of Earth, Renewer of Light.
Each character’s birthday was chosen based on these signs.
Also, each week is 6 days. How does that work?

sometimes i do a pass or abandon it until i decide what i want to do with it. i don't want to query everything i write sadly #writingq

I jump directly to reading the draft from varied critical lenses (gender, socioeconomic, cultural, etc).
Is it premature? No, I don't think so. If the book isn't saying anything legibly compelling from at least one critical perspective at draft one, that's a red flag.
What do you immediately do after finishing a first draft? I start editing/revising, while I try to push the urge to write something new away #writingq #WritingCommunity

In Relic World, your moon sign is "what were the phases of the two moons on the day you were born" and forever onward when they are in those phases at the same time again is a lucky day for you.

The canary in the mine that I should stop editing is when I find myself reverting most tweaks.
When do you know a piece of writing is finished? I feel as if I’ve gotten it as far as I can, then it’s time for fresh eyes to look at it. Being finished never seems real #writingq #WritingCommunity
🧵3/3
Kavish's mind is also both present and future. Present, because he worries about surviving every day. Future, because he thinks about his younger brother's (Mitali) future a lot. He tries to block out the past entirely, though he's not always successful.

What's Your Sign?
Does your character have an astrological sign? Is it from a real system or your own worlds system?
Why did you pick that sign for them?
How do they match or subvert the attributes of their sign?

Oh gosh, where do I begin?? There's so much I haven't explained--and so much that will be explained later to show how it all fits into place, so most of it's spoilers. As someone else said for their own work, there are definitely jRPG-style twists and turns >.>~ 🧵

I love when a twist surprises me (as long as it doesn’t seem to come out of nowhere), & also when I guess the twist (as long as it wasn’t too obvious). A good twist, whether I saw it coming or not, will sell me on a story forever

I've seen it so few times where it's actually made me pause and go, "What?!"
I like it when you can capture that effect. But hints must be very lightly sprinkled in where it's a passing comment you can go back to and be like; "oooh you..." or it has to be in...

What "time" do your characters often think in?
Is their mind often stuck in the past, focused on the present, or thinking about the future? Why?

A well-engineered, intentional rug pull is wonderful.
If the twist retrospectively reframes prior information in ways that are evident, foreshadowed, coherent and, once revealed, inevitable, you have literary platinum.
If any of these fail, so (likely) does your book.
Writers! How do you feel about twist endings in stories? #writingq #WritingCommunity
I put on my adverb hunting hat and head into the draft jungle. Adverbs are good for expediency when drafting but most will be replaced with showing instead of telling.
