Hey California #yimbys, does anyone know how the new state zoning laws interact with the Coastal Commission? I had the impression that the CCC was a major problem for development in coastal areas, but maybe their remit was affected by these new laws?

Today the most vocal US #YIMBYs are focused on market rate housing production in cities because they live in a few wealthy, high demand cities. They’ve lost touch w/ the movement’s fair housing roots fighting exclusionary #NIMBY suburbs using zoning to keep affordable housing out of white suburbs.

At the public hearing for the comprehensive plan in #Seattle. Had a very short pro-housing rally beforehand. Unfortunately seems to be about a 50/50 mix of #YIMBYs and NIMBYs. Gonna have to wait at least a couple hours to comment 😬

There are folks who say they want to eventually own a home here but are against these projects and almost any growth. The lack of big picture thinking and logic is astounding. I’ve had it with NIMBYs and hope the #YIMBYs start to speak up as loudly as the misinformed mob. 7/

After clearing Transportation, the Goodwill affordable housing redevelopment went on to Arlington County Planning Commission. Us #YIMBYs showed up to speak in support for 128 units and a childcare center! There were amendments added to their approval, but it did clear PC unanimously. #urbanism

At the #ArlingtonVA Housing Comm'n on #MissingMiddle housing, I was 1 of 6 public speakers. 5 of us in favor of MMH 🎉. Only 1 anti. #YIMBYs and other pro-housing supporters show up and advocate when it matters. Yet the NIMBY orgs will still claim they don't have opportunities.

As I sit here replying to emails (so. many. emails.) and snacking on leftover Halloween candy, I'm reminded of a past Halloween where I went dressed as the friendliest neighbor ever - what us #YIMBYs aspire to be. Won't you be my neighbor?

I'm really looking forward to their new "faith and community coordination committee" effort. Us #YIMBYs have been wanting to make inroads and form partnerships with the religious communities in the area. Fairfax would be a great place to start!
